It's summer! How 'bout that?

While a proposed Saturday's Radio summer tour didn't work out, for a variety of reasons, I'll be looking at shaking some rust off and meeting folks by popping in on a few open mics. Tomorrow night (Wednesday, July 3) I'll be joining the festivities at Durty Nelly's in Charlottesville VA. Between the week of July 12 - July 19 I hope to be hitting open mics in Nashville, Athens GA, and Chapel Hill / Raleigh. It's sort of an "Open Mic Tour" / road trip.

I'll also be playing (solo-acousstic) a benefit for the Children's Hospital of Richmond on August 17. It's put on by the guys Highroller, and it'll be at Booster Park in Orange, Virginia. I'm not sure what time I'll be going on - watch this space. Singer-songwriter David Leckie-Gillmore and of course Highroller will also be playing. Check out the Facebook Event Page.

In our "Favorite Nick Drake album" survey, Bryter Layter won out with the most votes, followed next by Pink Moon and lastly by Five Leaves Left. The cool thing about this poll for me personally was that I spent more time listening to Nick Drake than ever before, and I finally bought my own copy of the wonderful Bryter Layter.

In celebration of the Replacements getting back together and playing a few shows - I count myself lucky to have seen them live a couple of times - the new Saturday's Radio Survey asks you to "pick a Replacement". Is your favorte 'Mat Bob, Paul, Tommy, Slim, or Chris? Apologies to final tour drummer Steve Foley (RIP).

It's kind of a light week for musical birthdays. Happy Birthday to:

  • Vince Clarke (Depche Mode / Erasure) - Wednesday, July 3
  • Robbie Robertson (The Band) - Friday, July 5
  • Huey Lewis - Friday, July 5
  • Nancy Griffith - Saturday, July 6
